Wonderful Crochet Flower Granny Square

Posted on November 10, 2025

step-by-step pattern that matches the flowers in your image. Iโ€™ll break it down so even beginners can follow.

๐ŸŒผ DETAILED CROCHET FLOWER MOTIF PATTERN

โœ… Abbreviations

  • MR โ€“ magic ring
  • ch โ€“ chain
  • sl st โ€“ slip stitch
  • sc โ€“ single crochet
  • dc โ€“ double crochet
  • tr โ€“ treble crochet
  • st โ€“ stitch
  • sp โ€“ space
  • puff st โ€“ puff stitch (explained below)

โœ… Puff Stitch Instructions

  • Yarn over
  • Insert hook in stitch
  • Pull up a loop
  • Repeat the above 3 times (you will have 7 loops on the hook)
  • Yarn over and pull through all loops
  • Chain 1 to close the puff stitch

โœ… Round-by-Round Instructions

โญ Round 1 โ€“ Center

Using Color A:

  1. Make a magic ring.
  2. ch3 (counts as dc).
  3. Make 11 more dc into ring.
  4. Pull ring tight (12 dc total).
  5. Join with sl st in top of ch3.

โญ Round 2 โ€“ Puff Stitch Round

Using Color B:

  1. Join yarn in any stitch.
  2. ch2 (this is just a spacer, not a stitch).
  3. Make 1 puff st in the same stitch.
  4. ch1.
  5. In every stitch around:
    • Make 1 puff st
    • ch1
  6. You will have 12 puff stitches.
  7. Join with sl st on top of first puff stitch.

โญ Round 3 โ€“ White Spikes (Chain Loops)

Using White:

  1. Join yarn on top of any puff stitch.
  2. ch4.
  3. sl st on top of next puff stitch.
  4. Repeat:
    • ch4
    • sl st on next puff
  5. Continue around (12 chain loops).
  6. sl st to join.

This forms the white spiky layer.

โญ Round 4 โ€“ Petals (Large stitches)

Using Color C:

  1. Insert hook behind the white loops, into the space between puff stitches.
  2. ch3 (counts as dc).
  3. In the same space make:
    • 2 tr
    • 1 dc
  4. Next petal:
    • In next space work 1 dc, 2 tr, 1 dc
  5. Repeat all around (12 petals).
  6. sl st to join.

Petals will be pointy until the final scallop round.

โญ Round 5 โ€“ Scallop Edging

Using Color D:

  1. Join yarn on top of any petal.
  2. In the same stitch work:
    • sc
    • 3 dc
    • sc
  3. Repeat on top of each petal (12 scallops).
  4. sl st to finish.
  5. Fasten off and weave ends.

โœ… Optional (for fuller petals)

If you want a 3D layered effect like in some of the flowers in the photo:

Add this extra step after Round 3:

๐ŸŒธ Extra Round โ€“ Back Post Petals

Instead of working in the chain loop, work into the back of the puff stitch round.

  1. Insert hook behind puff stitch.
  2. Make: 2 treble stitches + 1 double stitch.
  3. Repeat behind each puff.

This gives extra layers and deeper texture.

โœ… Tips for Best Results

  • Use soft acrylic yarn so petals expand nicely.
  • Keep tension even to maintain circle shape.
  • Change colors every round for a more vibrant flower.
  • Use a 4mm or 5mm hook for nice, fluffy petals.
