Super easy to make crochet flower

Posted on October 17, 2025

This is a crochet flower with a spiral center and layered petals — a beautiful 3D motif often used in blankets, appliqués, or decorations. Here’s a detailed step-by-step tutorial to make it like in the image:

🧶 MATERIALS

  • Yarn:
    • Green (center)
    • White (petals)
Use cotton or acrylic yarn in the same weight (e.g. DK or 3-ply).
  • Hook: 2.5 mm – 3.5 mm (depending on yarn thickness)
  • Scissors and tapestry needle

🌿 PART 1: CROCHET THE SPIRAL CENTER

Step 1: Foundation ring

  1. Make a magic ring (or chain 5 and slip stitch to form a ring).
  2. Chain 1 (does not count as a stitch).
  3. Work 10 single crochet (sc) into the ring.
  4. Pull the tail to close the center tight.
👉 Don’t join rounds — we will continue in a spiral.

Step 2: Build the spiral ridges

Now we’ll create that 3D coil look:

  1. Round 2:
    • In the first stitch, make 1 front post double crochet (fpdc) — yarn over, insert hook around the post from front to back, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through the last 2 loops.
    • Repeat fpdc in each stitch around (10 fpdc total).
  2. Round 3:
    • Keep working fpdc into each fpdc from the previous round, without joining.
    • Continue this spiral pattern for 4–5 rounds or until it forms a thick, coiled ring (like a scrunchie shape).
    • The hole in the center should remain visible but small.
  3. Finish:
    • When the coil looks tall and dense, slip stitch to secure.
    • Fasten off, leaving a small tail to weave in.

✅ You now have a spiral green ring, which is the flower’s center.

🌸 PART 2: CROCHET THE PETALS

Each petal will be worked directly onto the green ring, one by one.

Step 1: Attach yarn

  • Attach white yarn to the back loop of any stitch on the green ring using a slip stitch.
  • Chain 8 (this is the base for the petal).

Step 2: Form the first side of the petal

Starting in 2nd chain from hook:

  1. 1 single crochet (sc)
  2. 1 half double crochet (hdc)
  3. 1 double crochet (dc) in next 4 chains (total 4 dc)
  4. 1 treble crochet (tr) in the last chain

Now you’re at the tip of the petal.

Step 3: Form the other side of the petal

  • Chain 1 (this creates the sharp point at the tip).
  • Work along the other side of the foundation chain:
1 treble crochet (tr) in first stitch,
    4 double crochets (dc),
    1 half double crochet (hdc),
1 single crochet (sc) in the last stitch.

Step 4: Anchor the petal

  • Slip stitch into the next stitch on the green ring to secure the petal base.

Step 5: Repeat for all 5 petals

  • Repeat Steps 1–4 four more times evenly around the ring.
  • Adjust placement so petals are equally spaced (5 total).

Step 6: Finishing touches

  • Fasten off and weave in all yarn ends.
  • If the petals curl slightly, lightly block them (spray with water, shape, and let dry flat).

🌼 OPTIONAL VARIATIONS

  • Add a small yellow circle in the middle (sew or glue) for a more realistic flower.
  • Use different petal colors for contrast.
  • Attach a pin or clip for wearable art.
