Step-by-step to make crochet pattern

Posted on October 17, 2025

That’s a spiral crochet circle pattern with raised ridges — it’s made by combining color changes and post stitches. Here’s a step-by-step tutorial so you can make it yourself:

🧶 Materials

  • Yarn: 3 colors — Blue (A), Gray (B), White (C)
(use same yarn weight for all)
  • Hook: size suitable for yarn (e.g. 3.5–4.0 mm)
  • Scissors and yarn needle for finishing
  • Stitch markers (optional but helpful)

🪡 Step-by-Step Pattern

🌼 Round 1 – Blue Center

  1. With blue (A) yarn, make a magic ring.
  2. Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc).
  3. Work 11 dc into the ring (12 dc total).
  4. Pull the ring tight.
  5. Join with sl st to top of starting ch-3.
  6. Cut yarn and fasten off.

🟦 Tip: You should have a small flat circle.

⚙️ Round 2 – Gray Layer

  1. Attach gray (B) to any dc.
  2. Ch 3 (counts as dc).
  3. Work 1 dc in the same st (2 dc in each st).
  4. Continue: 2 dc in each st around → total 24 dc.
  5. Join with sl st to top of ch-3.
  6. Cut yarn and fasten off.

🩶 Now your circle is slightly larger and still flat.

⚪ Round 3 – White Border

  1. Attach white (C) to any stitch.
  2. Ch 3 (counts as dc).
  3. (1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next) repeat around.
    → total 36 dc.
  4. Join with sl st and fasten off.

⚪ This round adds the white outer ring base for your spirals.

🌀 Round 4 – Start the Spirals

Now you’ll work front post double crochets (FPdc) in alternating colors.
You will crochet around the posts of earlier rounds, not in the top loops — that’s what makes the raised spiral texture.

✳️ First Spiral (Blue)

  1. Attach blue (A) to any stitch of the last round (white).
  2. Ch 3 (counts as dc).
  3. FPdc around the gray post that sits directly below the stitch you just joined (reach two rounds down).
  4. Dc in next white stitch, FPdc around next gray post two rounds below — repeat this pattern around.
  5. When you reach the start again, sl st to join and fasten off.

💡 How FPdc works:

  • Yarn over, insert hook from front to back to front around the post of the dc (not the top loops).
  • Yarn over and pull through, yarn over, pull through two loops twice.

✳️ Second Spiral (Gray)

  1. Attach gray (B) into the next unused stitch of the last white round.
  2. Repeat the same pattern:
Dc in next st, FPdc around the post two rounds below (the gray row).
  3. Work all the way around.
  4. Join with sl st and fasten off.

🩶 Now the gray ridges will twist between the blue ones, creating a perfect spiral effect.

✨ Finishing Touch

  • Weave in all yarn ends using a needle.
  • Gently block your circle to flatten it if needed (light steam or pin flat while damp).

🌈 Optional Variations

  • Use 4 colors instead of 3 for a rainbow swirl.
  • Make more increase rounds before the spiral to create a larger motif.
  • Use it as a coaster, appliqué, or centerpiece for a bag or blanket.
