How to make Crochet Flower

Posted on February 12, 2026

This is a comb pom-pom flower ๐ŸŒธ made with yarn and beads. Here is a detailed step-by-step tutorial so you can make it easily.

๐Ÿงต Materials (Exact Details)

  • Soft yarn (medium weight / milk cotton works best)
  • Wide-tooth plastic comb
โ†’ 1โ€“1.5 cm space between teeth is ideal
  • Strong thread (for tying center)
  • Needle
  • Small round beads (about 20โ€“30 beads)
  • Scissors
  • Optional: hot glue

๐ŸŒธ PART 1: Making the Petals

Step 1: Prepare the Yarn

Cut a long strand about 2โ€“3 meters.
If using 2 colors (like the picture), hold both strands together evenly.

Step 2: Wrapping on the Comb (Important)

  1. Hold comb horizontally.
  2. Leave a 5 cm yarn tail.
  3. Wrap yarn around the teeth:
    • Go around one tooth
    • Skip one tooth
    • Wrap the next tooth
  4. Continue this pattern across the comb.

You should use about 6โ€“8 teeth total.

Now repeat wrapping back and forth over the same teeth.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Wrap about 30โ€“40 rounds
(Thicker flower = more wraps)

Keep tension firm but not too tight.

Step 3: Tie the Center (Very Important)

  1. Cut a strong thread about 25 cm.
  2. Carefully slide it through the middle of the wrapped yarn.
(Between comb teeth and yarn bundle.)
  3. Tie extremely tight.
  4. Double knot 2โ€“3 times.

The tighter you tie, the better your flower will hold.

Step 4: Remove From Comb

Slowly slide the yarn bundle off the comb.
Hold it tightly in the center while removing.

Step 5: Cut the Loops

You will see loops on both sides.

Cut:

  • All loops on the left
  • All loops on the right

Now it will look fluffy.

๐ŸŒผ PART 2: Forming the Flower Shape

Step 6: Spread the Petals

  1. Separate the yarn strands evenly in a circle.
  2. Press the center down flat.
  3. Arrange petals evenly around.

It should now look like a round flower.

Step 7: Trim Evenly

Lightly trim:

  • Uneven ends
  • Long strands
  • Shape into round daisy form

Do NOT overcut.

Tip:
Trim slowly little by little.

๐Ÿ’œ PART 3: Making the Bead Center

Step 8: Sew Beads in the Middle

  1. Thread your needle.
  2. Start from the back center.
  3. Sew beads tightly in a small circle.
  4. Fill the middle completely (about 15โ€“25 beads).

Pull thread tight so beads sit firmly.

Tie off at the back securely.

๐ŸŒŸ Make It Extra Beautiful (Optional Advanced Tips)

โœ” To Make Thicker Petals

Wrap 50+ rounds before tying.

โœ” To Make Smaller Flower

Use fewer teeth and less wrapping.

โœ” To Make Larger Flower

Use wider comb or wrap across more teeth.

โœ” To Make Double-Layer Flower

Make two flowers.
Stack them.
Sew together.
Add bead center on top.

๐Ÿ“ Size Guide

Using 6 teeth:

  • 30 wraps โ†’ Small (5โ€“6 cm)
  • 40 wraps โ†’ Medium (7โ€“8 cm)
  • 50 wraps โ†’ Large (9โ€“10 cm)

๐Ÿ’ก Common Mistakes to Avoid

โŒ Tying center too loose โ†’ flower falls apart
โŒ Cutting before tying tightly
โŒ Uneven wrapping tension
โŒ Over trimming
