(like the one in your image)

📏 Materials:

  • Worsted weight cotton or acrylic yarn (3 colors: flower center, petal color, background)
  • 4.0 mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Optional: lining fabric, magnetic snap, or button

📜 Steps:

🔸 1️⃣ Make the Granny Squares

Each square is made separately and later joined.

✨ Flower Granny Square Pattern (as in your image):

Round 1 (Center):

  • With center color, make a magic ring.
  • Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), work 11 dc into the ring (total 12 dc).
  • Join with sl st to top of ch-3.
  • Fasten off.

Round 2 (Petals):

  • Join petal color in any dc.
  • [Ch 2, yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, pull up a loop] 3 times (you’ll have 7 loops on your hook).
  • Yarn over, pull through all loops.
  • Ch 2, sl st in next dc.
  • Repeat in every dc around (total 12 puff petals).
  • Join and fasten off.

Round 3 (Background Round):

  • Join background color in any ch-2 space between petals.
  • Ch 3, 2 dc in same space, ch 1, 3 dc in next space.
  • At the corners (4 corners): in every 3rd or 4th space, do 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc.
  • Continue around forming a square.
  • Sl st to join.

Round 4 (Border):

  • Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in each dc and ch-1 space.
  • In each corner ch-2 space: 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc.
  • Sl st to join.

Make 13–17 squares depending on bag size you want (the one in your image looks like 13).

🔸 2️⃣ Arrange and Join Squares

  • Lay out your squares in the desired pattern.
  • Join squares using:
    • Slip stitch through back loops only
    • Or whipstitch with a yarn needle
(Slip stitch join keeps the seam neat and flat.)

Typical layout for a hobo-style bag like this:

  • 1 center bottom square
  • 4 side squares
  • 4 upper squares
  • 4 forming the handles’ bases

🔸 3️⃣ Make the Strap

  • With background color, ch to desired strap length (usually 90–100 chains for a shoulder bag).
  • Work 3–4 rows of single crochet (or half double crochet) back and forth.
  • Attach both ends of strap securely to the top corners of the bag.

🔸 4️⃣ Add Lining & Closure (Optional)

  • Cut fabric lining to size.
  • Hand sew or machine stitch lining inside.
  • Add a magnetic snap or button at the top.

🎀 Done!

You’ll have a beautiful, custom granny square flower bag just like the one in your image.
