Easy to make Crochet Headband

Posted on November 28, 2025

Here is a step-by-step tutorial to make the linked half-circle crochet border shown in the image. This pattern creates overlapping arches that look beautiful for edges, straps, or decorative trims.

🌟 CROCHET LINKED ARCHES BORDER β€” FULL DETAILED TUTORIAL

US crochet terms

βœ… 1. FOUNDATION

Step 1 β€” Make a slip knot

Place it on your hook.

Step 2 β€” Chain 10

This chain creates the first arch.

βœ… 2. FIRST ARCH

Step 3 β€” Double crochet into the 5th chain from hook

  • Count: the 4 skipped chains = act as 1 DC + 1 chain-space.
  • Into the 5th chain, work:

πŸ‘‰ 10 double crochet (DC) into the SAME chain.

You will now have a half-circle shape.

βœ… 3. CREATING THE JOIN FOR THE NEXT ARCH

This is what makes the arches interlock.

Step 4 β€” Chain 5

This is the new arch’s base chain.

Step 5 β€” Slip stitch (sl st)

Insert your hook into the side of the arch:

➑ Locate the space between the last 2 DC stitches from the arch.
➑ Insert hook through both loops (or through the gap).
➑ Make 1 slip stitch to attach the chain to the arch.

Step 6 β€” Chain 3

This works as β€œheight” for the coming DC stitches.

βœ… 4. SECOND ARCH

Now you build the next half-circle directly on the arch, not in a chain.

Step 7 β€” Work 10 DC into the attachment point

Into the same space where you made the slip stitch:

πŸ”Έ Yarn over
πŸ”Έ Insert hook into the same space
πŸ”Έ Make 10 double crochet

As you complete them, they naturally form a curved shape that overlays the previous arch.

You now have 2 linked arches.

βœ… 5. REPEAT FOR ALL REMAINING ARCHES

For each new arch:

Step A β€” Chain 5

(This forms the next loop.)

Step B β€” Slip stitch into the top-side of the previous DC group

Insert hook into the small gap at the top of the previous arch.

Step C β€” Chain 3

Step D β€” 10 DC into the same joining point

Repeat Steps A–D for the whole length you want.

⭐ IMPORTANT NOTES FOR SCULPTED, NEAT ARCHES

βœ” Keep tension even

Loose is better than tight.

βœ” Always insert in the same gap

This ensures the arches overlap smoothly.

βœ” Block finished piece

Light steam or pin-and-spray shaping will make the arches open and align beautifully.

🌟 OPTIONAL β€” MAKE ARCHES BIGGER OR SMALLER

You can resize it:

To make bigger arches:

  • ch 12 at the start
  • skip 5 ch
  • do 14–16 DC per arch

To make smaller arches:

  • ch 8 at the start
  • skip 3 ch
  • do 8 DC per arch
