Easy to make Crochet Granny Square

Posted on November 26, 2025

Here is a clear and easy step-by-step tutorial showing how to make this 4-color corner-to-corner (C2C) granny square like in your picture.
(I will explain exactly how to crochet each colored triangle.)

🧢 FULL DETAILED TUTORIAL β€” 4-Color C2C Granny Square

⭐ Structure of the square

The square is made of 4 triangles:

[ A ] [ B ]
[ D ] [ C ]

Each triangle is made using granny clusters (3 DC) worked in corner-to-corner style.

🟦 TRIANGLE 1 (Top Right – Blue in your picture)

Row 1

  1. CH 4
  2. In the 4th chain, make 3 DC
β†’ You now have 1 small block.

Turn your work.

Row 2

  1. CH 4 (counts as 1 block)
  2. Make 3 DC in the base of your CH
  3. Go to last row’s square β†’ insert hook in the side space
  4. Make 3 DC in that space

Turn your work.

Row 3

  1. CH 4
  2. 3 DC in the base of that CH
  3. Into next open space β†’ 3 DC
  4. Into last open space β†’ 3 DC

Turn.

Continue

Repeat the pattern:

  • CH 4
  • Make 3 DC under that chain
  • Make 3 DC in each space along the side

Stop when your triangle has 5 rows (same size as picture).

Cut yarn.

🩷 TRIANGLE 2 (Top Left – Pink)

This triangle is joined to the blue triangle while growing.

Join yarn

Insert hook in the top corner of the blue triangle and attach pink yarn.

Row 1

  1. CH 4
  2. 3 DC in the base of the CH
    (no joining needed yet)

Turn.

Row 2

  1. CH 4
  2. 3 DC in the base
  3. SL ST to the first open space on the side of the blue triangle
  4. CH 3
  5. 3 DC in the same spaceβ€”this connects them

Turn.

Row 3

  1. CH 3
  2. 3 DC in the base of the CH
  3. SL ST to next open space of the blue
  4. CH 3
  5. 3 DC in same space
  6. Repeat until the end of the row

Turn.

Continue

Keep making rows, always:

  • CH 3 at start
  • 3 DC
  • SL ST into a blue space
  • CH 3 + 3 DC in that space

Stop when triangular size matches blue.

Cut yarn.

βšͺ TRIANGLE 3 (Bottom Left – White)

Attach white yarn to the bottom side of the pink triangle.

The steps are identical to Triangle 2, but join to Pink.

Each row

  1. CH 3 (or CH 4 if starting new increase row)
  2. Make 3 DC in the base
  3. SL ST into next open space on PINK triangle
  4. CH 3
  5. Make 3 DC in same space
  6. Continue across
  7. Turn and repeat

Stop when triangle matches the others.

Cut yarn.

🩢 TRIANGLE 4 (Bottom Right – Gray)

This triangle attaches to two sides:

  • one side to White
  • one side to Pink or Blue (depending on orientation)

Attach gray yarn to bottom corner of white.

Row 1

  1. CH 4
  2. 3 DC in the base of CH
    Turn.

Row 2

  1. CH 4
  2. 3 DC in the base
  3. SL ST to first space on white
  4. CH 3
  5. 3 DC in same space
    Turn.

Row 3 and all next rows

Each row will attach to two triangles:

βœ” SL ST into white side
βœ” When reaching the top of the row, SL ST into blue/pink junction
βœ” Work 3 DC clusters in each space

Continue until the entire square fills in.

Cut yarn and weave ends.

🧡 OPTIONAL CLEAN-UP ROUND (if you want smooth borders)

Round 1:

  • Attach any color
  • Work 1 DC, CH 1 into each space around
  • In corners: (1 DC, CH 2, 1 DC)
