Crochet Lace Motif Easy To Make

Posted on June 21, 2025

Creating beautiful crochet lace square motifs can be both a rewarding and therapeutic craft, especially for beginners.

🌸 Full Crochet Lace Motif Pattern — Detailed Step by Step

📌 Materials:

  • Cotton crochet thread No. 10
  • 1.25 mm steel hook (adjust as needed)
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle for finishing

🧶 Pattern Instructions:

🌼 Center Flower

Round 1:

  • Start with a magic ring (or ch 4 and sl st to form a ring).
  • Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), then work 8 single crochets (sc) into the ring.
  • Join with a slip stitch (sl st) to the first sc.
    [8 sc]

Round 2:

  • Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 double crochet (dc) in same stitch, ch 3, sl st in same stitch — this makes 1 petal.
  • Repeat in each of the next 7 sc.
  • You will have 8 petals around.
  • Join with sl st to base of first ch-3.

🔳 Mesh Background

Round 3:

  • In any ch-3 space:
Ch 5 (counts as sc + ch 5 loop), sc in next ch-3 space.
  • Repeat ch 5, sc in next ch-3 space around.
  • Join with sl st to 1st sc.

Round 4:

  • In each ch-5 loop:
Ch 5, sc in next ch-5 loop around.
  • You can adjust corners by skipping this round if the motif shape is already forming.

🟩 Square Formation

Round 5 (Corners and Sides):

  • Find 4 loops equally spaced around (they will become corners).
  • In those loops: sc, ch 5, sc (corner made).
  • In all other loops: sc, ch 5, sc

Check spacing carefully to balance the shape.

🌀 Decorative Scallop Edge

Round 6:

  • In each ch-5 loop on sides:
[sc, ch 3, dc, ch 3, sc]
  • In each corner loop:
[sc, ch 5, dc, ch 5, sc]

Creates that nice picot-like arch edging you see in your photo.

🔗 Joining Motifs Together

When making multiple motifs:

  • In the final round, when working into a corner or side loop:
Instead of ch 3 or ch 5, ch 1, sl st into corresponding loop of adjacent motif, ch 1, then continue.

This method gives a neat, connected lacework.

📏 Blocking

  • Lightly wet or steam your finished motifs.
  • Pin them out to shape (keeping corners sharp and sides straight).
  • Let dry completely.
