Beutiful Crochet baby blanket with three colors

Posted on May 28, 2025

This tutorial will walk you through the two coloured beautiful crochet stitch for blanket. This crochet stitch has the most interesting two colour design of any crochet pattern I have encountered yet!

🧢 Crochet Baby Blanket Pattern (3-Color Block Design)

πŸ“ Sizing:

You can make this any size by adjusting your starting chain:

  • Chain multiple of 6 + 2 stitches
    • For example: 6 Γ— 20 + 2 = 122 chains for a baby blanket

🌈 Color Key:

  • MC – Light Blue (main color)
  • CC1 – Red (contrast color 1)
  • CC2 – Yellow (contrast color 2)

πŸͺ‘ STITCH GUIDE:

  • CH = Chain
  • SC = Single Crochet
  • DC = Double Crochet
  • FPDC = Front Post Double Crochet (for optional texture)

✍️ INSTRUCTIONS:

πŸ”Ή FOUNDATION:

  • With MC (blue), CH multiple of 6 + 2 (e.g., 122).
  • Row 1: SC in 2nd CH from hook and across. Turn.

πŸ”Ή ROW 2 (MC):

  • CH 3 (counts as first DC), DC in each stitch across. Turn.

πŸ”Ή ROW 3 (CC1 – Red):

This is the setup row for colored blocks.

  • CH 1.
  • SC in next 2 sts, skip 2 sts, SC in next 2 sts, repeat across.
  • The skipped 2 stitches will be worked over in the next row. Turn.

πŸ”Ή ROW 4 (MC):

  • CH 3 (counts as DC).
  • DC in next 2 sts, DC over the 2 skipped sts from Row 3 (work in front of the SC row), repeat across.
  • These long DCs create the blocky look. Turn.

πŸ”Ή ROW 5 (MC):

  • CH 3, DC in each stitch across. Turn.

πŸ”Ή ROW 6 (CC2 – Yellow):

  • CH 1.
  • Shift the color pattern:
    • Skip 1, SC in next 2, skip 2, SC in next 2, skip 1, repeat to create an offset brick pattern.
  • Turn.

πŸ”Ή ROW 7 (MC):

  • CH 3.
  • DC in each SC and DC over skipped spaces, matching where the color blocks go.
  • Turn.

πŸ” Repeat Rows 2–7:

Alternate Red (CC1) and Yellow (CC2) on every third row to create a checkerboard/block pattern.

🧡 EDGING (optional):

  • With MC, SC evenly around the entire edge of the blanket.
  • You can also add a picot or shell border if desired.

βœ… TIPS:

  • Always carry the yarn along the side if you don’t want to cut each color after use.
  • Use a tapestry needle to weave in all ends securely.
  • Block the finished blanket for a neater finish.
