Beautiful Crochet Pattern

Posted on February 13, 2026

This looks like a textured shell / fan stitch pattern with soft gradient yarn. I’ll explain step-by-step how to make it in detail.

🧢 MATERIALS

β€’ Medium (4) yarn – soft or gradient yarn looks best
β€’ 4.5 mm or 5 mm hook
β€’ Scissors
β€’ Yarn needle

πŸ“š STITCH GUIDE (US TERMS)

  • ch = chain
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • sp = space between groups

πŸ“ FOUNDATION CHAIN

The pattern repeat is:

πŸ‘‰ Multiple of 6 + 2 extra chains

Examples:

  • Small swatch: 20 chains (18 + 2)
  • Wider piece: 32 chains (30 + 2)
  • Blanket: 122 chains (120 + 2)

πŸͺ‘ ROW 1 (Foundation Row)

  1. Chain your desired number.
  2. Dc in 4th chain from hook (first 3 chains count as dc).
  3. Dc in next 2 chains.
β†’ Now you have 3 dc together.
  4. Skip 2 chains.
  5. In next chain, make 3 dc in same stitch.
  6. Skip 2 chains.
  7. Repeat: (3 dc in next stitch, skip 2 chains).
  8. End with 1 dc in last chain.
  9. Turn.

You will see small groups of 3 dc with little gaps between them.

πŸͺ‘ ROW 2 (Creating the Shell Spaces)

  1. Ch 3 (counts as dc).
  2. Dc in next 2 stitches (you now have 3 dc total).
  3. Skip the next 3 dc group.
  4. In the space between the groups, make:
    πŸ‘‰ 3 dc
  5. Skip next 3 dc group.
  6. Repeat across:
    (3 dc in each space)
  7. At the end, make 3 dc in the last space and 1 dc in top of turning chain.
  8. Turn.

Now the groups are sitting in the spaces below β€” this makes the soft diagonal texture.

πŸͺ‘ ROW 3 (Offset Row – Important!)

This row shifts the pattern.

  1. Ch 3.
  2. Skip first 3 dc group.
  3. In next space, make 3 dc.
  4. Skip next 3 dc.
  5. Repeat across.
  6. End with 1 dc in top of turning chain.
  7. Turn.

Now you’ll see the diagonal β€œwoven” look forming.

πŸ” REPEAT

Repeat:

Row 2
Row 3
Row 2
Row 3

Keep repeating until desired height.

🧡 WHY IT LOOKS TEXTURED

Because:

  • Each new 3-dc group sits between the previous row’s group.
  • The offset creates a raised shell effect.
  • The soft yarn makes the texture stand out.

πŸ“ TENSION TIPS

βœ” Do not pull yarn too tight
βœ” Keep dc stitches same height
βœ” Make sure your 3 dc groups are even

If edges look uneven:
Always count your stitches at end of each row.

πŸͺ„ OPTIONAL CLEAN EDGE BORDER

After finishing:

Round 1:

  • Sc evenly around.
  • Put 3 sc in each corner.
  • Sl st to join.

Round 2 (optional decorative):

  • Ch 1, sc in same stitch.
  • Skip 1 stitch, 5 dc in next stitch.
  • Skip 1 stitch, sc in next.
  • Repeat around.

πŸ“ SIZE EXAMPLES

Scarf:
Chain 26–32
Repeat rows until 150–170 cm long

Baby blanket:
Chain 92–122
Repeat rows until square
