Beautiful crochet flower rose

Posted on October 27, 2025

That’s a beautiful crochet rose! 🌹
Here’s how you can make it step-by-step — this design is made by crocheting a long strip with scalloped petals, then rolling it into a flower shape.

🌸 Crochet Rose Step-by-Step Tutorial (Detailed)

🧶 Materials

  • Yarn: Medium-weight acrylic or cotton yarn (red)
  • Hook: 3.0 mm or 3.5 mm crochet hook
  • Other: Yarn needle, scissors

🪡 Step 1: Foundation Chain

  1. Start with a slip knot on your hook.
  2. Chain 55 (this makes a medium rose; for a larger one, chain 65–75).

🌿 Step 2: Base Row (Row 1)

This row creates the foundation loops where petals will form.

  1. In the 4th chain from the hook, make 1 double crochet (dc).
  2. Chain 1, skip 1 chain, and make 1 dc in the next chain.
  3. Repeat: (ch 1, skip 1 chain, dc in next) until the end.
  4. You’ll have about 26–27 dc spaces (the little “V” spaces).
  5. Turn your work.

🌹 Step 3: Petal Row (Row 2)

Now you’ll create the petals in the dc spaces from the previous row.
You’ll make small petals first and larger ones as you go, to give the rose a natural look.

  1. In the first ch-1 space:
    • (sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc, sc) → small petal.
  2. In the next 3–4 spaces:
    • (sc, hdc, 5 dc, hdc, sc) → medium petals.
  3. In the next 4–5 spaces:
    • (sc, hdc, 7 dc, hdc, sc) → large petals.
  4. In the last few spaces (for outer edge):
    • (sc, hdc, 9 dc, hdc, sc) → extra large petals.

At the end of the row, fasten off and leave a long yarn tail (about 40 cm) for sewing.

🌼 Step 4: Forming the Rose

This is where the rose shape appears.

  1. Start rolling the strip from the beginning (small petals) — this will be the center of your rose.
  2. Keep rolling gently in a spiral, letting the petals overlap naturally.
  3. Once you’ve rolled the entire strip, adjust the petals to look full and round.

🧵 Step 5: Sewing the Rose

  1. Use your yarn needle and the long tail to stitch across the bottom edge of the rolled rose.
  2. Sew through all layers securely (back and forth several times).
  3. Tighten slightly so the rose holds its shape.
  4. Weave in ends.

🍃 Optional Step: Add Leaves

You can crochet 1–2 green leaves to attach underneath.

Simple Leaf Pattern:

  1. Chain 8.
  2. In 2nd chain from hook: sc.
  3. Next: hdc, dc, dc, hdc, sc, slip stitch into last chain.
  4. Now crochet along the other side of the chain to make the other half of the leaf:
    • sc, hdc, dc, dc, hdc, sc.
  5. Fasten off and sew under the flower.

💡 Tips

  • For a softer, fuller rose, use slightly looser tension.
  • For a tighter, compact rose, roll it more tightly and use smaller petals.
  • You can spray it lightly with water and shape the petals with your fingers to set it perfectly.
