Beautiful crochet coaster pattern

Posted on October 21, 2025

This is a beautiful crochet coaster pattern that looks like a flower or citrus slice with a scalloped edge! 🌼🍋
Here’s how you can make it step-by-step:

🌼 Crochet Round Coaster with Petal Segments (Detailed Tutorial)

🧶 Materials

  • 2 colors of yarn (e.g. white + yellow)
  • Crochet hook: 2.5 mm–3.0 mm
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle for weaving ends

🪡 Step-by-Step Instructions

🧩 Round 1: Center Circle

  1. Make a magic ring (or chain 4, join with sl st to form a ring).
  2. Chain 2 (does not count as a stitch).
  3. Make 12 double crochet (dc) into the ring.
  4. Pull the ring tight and join with a slip stitch into the first dc.
    → 12 dc total.

🟡 Tip: Use your border color (like yellow) for the center.

🧩 Round 2: Increasing Base

  1. Chain 2.
  2. Make 2 dc in each stitch around.
    Join with sl st.
    → 24 dc total.

This creates a flat circle as the coaster base.

🧩 Round 3: Preparing the Petal Sections

Now switch to white yarn (or your inner petal color).

  1. Chain 2.
  2. 1 dc in next stitch, chain 1, skip 1 stitch — repeat around the circle.
  3. Join with sl st.

You’ll have little “spaces” forming between yellow lines — these will become your white petal sections.

🧩 Round 4–8: Building the Petal Segments

We now work in color alternation (white and yellow).

Each “segment” (petal) is formed by crocheting into the spaces between the previous color lines.

🧶 With White:

  1. Join white in any chain-1 space.
  2. Chain 2 (counts as first dc).
  3. Make 2 dc in same space, then chain 1, skip next color section, move to the next chain-1 space.
  4. In each chain-1 space: make 3 dc, chain 1, skip over color sections, and repeat.
  5. Join at the end with sl st.

🟡 This forms the “fan” sections that spread out like pie slices.

🧶 With Yellow:

  1. Join yellow in one of the white “chain-1” spaces between petal fans.
  2. Chain 2, make 1 dc in next 2 dc, chain 1, skip 1.
  3. Repeat around to form separating yellow lines between white sections.
  4. Join with sl st.

🧵 Keep alternating colors (white for petals, yellow for separating lines) for 2–3 more rounds, increasing the dc count per section slightly each round to keep the circle flat:

  • Round 5 → 4 dc in each fan section
  • Round 6 → 5 dc in each fan section
  • Round 7 → 6 dc in each fan section

🧩 Round 9: Scalloped Edge (Border)

Use your border color (e.g. yellow).

  1. Join yarn in any stitch.
  2. (Skip 1 stitch, 5 dc in next stitch, skip 1, 1 sc in next stitch) — repeat all around.
  3. Join with sl st and fasten off.

This creates a pretty scalloped flower edge.

✂️ Finishing

  • Cut yarn, leaving a few inches of tail.
  • Weave in ends neatly using a tapestry needle.
  • Lightly block (wet and flatten) to shape evenly.
