Amazing Crochet Tunisian

Posted on November 11, 2025

This stitch is Half Double Crochet in the 3rd Loop (also called “Knit Stitch Crochet Look”). It gives a texture that looks like knitting / V rows.

I’ll show you how to make it step-by-step 👇

⭐ Understanding the Stitch

A half double crochet (HDC) stitch has 3 strands at the top:

Top view:
   \ / ← normal V loops (front & back loops)
    |
    | ← 3rd loop (this is the loop we use)

When you work into the 3rd loop, the top V loops get pushed to the front, creating the knit stitch look.

You will find this 3rd loop behind the stitch, when working across.

🧶 Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Make a Chain

Make any number of chains.
Example: Chain 30 (ch 30)

2. Row 1 – Regular Half Double Crochet

We make a base row first.

Hdc in 2nd chain from hook.
Hdc across the whole chain.
Turn your work.

Now you have a normal hdc row.

3. Locate the 3rd Loop

Turn your work so you see the back of the stitch.

You will see this:

 Top V loops (ignore these)
    \ /
   ( ) ← stitch body
    ─ ← 3rd loop (use this)

The 3rd loop is a horizontal bar located under the top V of each stitch, usually slightly toward the back side.

4. Row 2 – HDC in the 3rd Loop

Chain 1 (this does NOT count as a stitch)
Insert your hook into the 3rd loop of the first stitch.
Yarn over, pull up a loop (2 loops on hook)
Yarn over, pull through all loops.
Repeat across.
Turn your work.

You have completed one textured row.

5. Repeat

Row 3 and onward:
Ch 1, hdc in the 3rd loop across, turn.

You will see the V’s forming prominent knit-like pattern.

VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV

|||||||||||||||||||||||||

This is normal.
