This is a crochet flower border (5-petal flowers) worked onto a filet/grid fabric. Iβll explain it step by step, nice and clear π
PART 1: WHITE BASE (Filet Crochet Grid)
If you already have a grid, you can skip to Part 2.
Row pattern (basic filet)
- Chain multiple of 4 + 2
- Row 1:
- Double crochet (dc) in 4th chain from hook
- Chain 2, skip 2 chains, dc in next chain
- Repeat to end
- Turn work
Each row:
- Chain 3
- Dc in next dc
- Chain 2, skip chain-2 space, dc in next dc
You should see small square holes like the photo.

PART 2: START FLOWER BORDER (Green Yarn)
Step 1: Attach yarn
- Insert hook into corner square hole
- Pull up green yarn
- Slip stitch
- Chain 1 (lock stitch)
PART 3: FLOWER CENTER (VERY IMPORTANT)
All stitches go inside ONE square hole.
Step 2: Make a circle
- Chain 3 β counts as first double crochet
- 11 double crochet (dc) into the same hole
π Put hook through hole, yarn over, pull up, complete dc - You now have 12 dc total
- Slip stitch into top of chain-3
β This is the round center

PART 4: PETALS (ONE BY ONE)
Each petal uses 2 stitches from the center circle
Petal structure:
sl st β ch 2 β 3 hdc β ch 2 β sl st
Petal 1 (slow)
- Slip stitch into next dc
- Chain 2
- 3 half double crochet (hdc) in SAME stitch
- yarn over β insert β pull β yarn over β pull all loops
- Chain 2
- Slip stitch into next dc
πΈ One petal done
Petals 2β5
Repeat the exact same steps:
- Slip stitch next dc
- Ch 2
- 3 hdc
- Ch 2
- Slip stitch next dc
π After 5 petals, flower is complete

PART 5: MOVE TO NEXT FLOWER
Step 6: Connect
- Chain 3
- Insert hook into next square hole on the white fabric
- Slip stitch
Now youβre ready to make the next flower center
FULL REPEAT PATTERN
Attach β 12 dc center β 5 petals β ch 3 β sl st next hole
Repeat along the edge.
PART 6: CORNER FLOWER (IMPORTANT)
At corners:
- Still make 1 full flower
- Place it diagonally across the corner hole
- Keep chain-3 a little loose so it doesnβt pull

COMMON PROBLEMS & FIXES
β Flower curls
β
Use bigger hook or loosen hdc
β Petals too flat
β
Use 4 hdc instead of 3
β Edge pulls tight
β
Use chain 4 between flowers
OPTIONAL VARIATIONS
- πΌ Bigger flower: use 14 dc center
- πΈ Pointy petals: use dc instead of hdc
- πΏ Add leaves between flowers
- π¨ Two-color flowers (yellow center, green petals)
