How to make crochet flower

Posted on November 16, 2025

Here is a clear and easy tutorial to make the crochet flower in your photo.
This is a layered 3D loopy flower, made by crocheting long loops in rows and rolling them into a flower.

๐ŸŒผ DETAILED 3D LOOP PETAL FLOWER TUTORIAL

This flower is made from one long strip with 3 rows of loops, then rolled into a flower.

๐Ÿงถ MATERIALS

  • Yarn: Medium (No. 3 or 4) acrylic
  • Hook: 3.0 mm โ€“ 4.0 mm
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

๐Ÿ“ STITCH GUIDE (US Terms)

  • Ch = chain
  • Sc = single crochet
  • Sl st = slip stitch

๐ŸŒผ PART 1 โ€“ CREATE THE BASE STRIP

We will make a strip that looks like 3 rows of loops.
These loops are what form the curled petals.

๐Ÿ”ถ STEP 1 โ€“ FOUNDATION CHAIN

Chain 55.
(You can do 45 for a small flower or 65โ€“70 for a bigger flower.)

๐Ÿ”ถ STEP 2 โ€“ ROW 1 (Large Petals)

Work in back bumps of chain (optional but neater).

  1. In 2nd chain from hook, make 1 sc.
  2. Ch 10 (this is the large petal loop).
  3. Skip 1 chain, sc in next stitch.

Repeat steps 2โ€“3 all the way across:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Sc โ†’ Ch10 โ†’ Skip 1 โ†’ Sc โ†’ Ch10 โ†’ Skip 1 โ†’ Sc โ€ฆ

At the end, you will have a strip of large loops, like big petals.

๐Ÿ”ถ STEP 3 โ€“ ROW 2 (Medium Petals)

Turn your work.

  1. Ch 1.
  2. Sc into first sc from previous row.
  3. Ch 8 (medium loop).
  4. Sc in next sc, always skipping the loop spaces.

Repeat:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Sc โ†’ Ch8 โ†’ Sc โ†’ Ch8 โ†’ Sc โ€ฆ

Finish the row.

Now your strip should have:

  • A row of big loops (Row 1)
  • A row of medium loops (Row 2)

๐Ÿ”ถ STEP 4 โ€“ ROW 3 (Small Petals)

Turn your work.

  1. Ch 1.
  2. Sc into first sc.
  3. Ch 6 (small loop).
  4. Sc into next sc from previous row.

Repeat:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Sc โ†’ Ch6 โ†’ Sc โ†’ Ch6 โ†’ Sc โ€ฆ

Your strip now has:

  • Row 1: Large loops (Ch10)
  • Row 2: Medium loops (Ch8)
  • Row 3: Small loops (Ch6)

These 3 layers create the fluffy 3D flower.

๐ŸŒผ PART 2 โ€“ FORMING THE FLOWER

๐Ÿ”ถ STEP 5 โ€“ ROLLING THE STRIP

Start from the end with smaller loops (Row 3).

  1. Roll tightly to form the inner bud.
  2. Keep rolling slowly.
  3. As the loops get bigger, position them so they open outward like petals.
  4. Shape the petals using your fingers.

It will naturally form a round, full flower like the one in your image.

๐ŸŒผ PART 3 โ€“ SEWING / SECURING THE FLOWER

๐Ÿ”ถ STEP 6 โ€“ SEW FIRMLY

  1. Thread yarn needle with tail.
  2. Sew through the bottom edge (not the loops!).
  3. Stitch across the curled layers so the flower does not unwind.
  4. Knot securely and hide the yarn end.

๐ŸŒธ OPTIONAL โ€“ ADD A LEAF

  1. Ch 8
  2. In 2nd chain from hook: Sl st
  3. Next stitch: Sc
  4. Next stitch: Hdc
  5. Next stitch: Dc
  6. Next stitch: Hdc
  7. Next stitch: Sc
  8. Last stitch: Sl st

Fasten off and sew to the back of the flower.

โœ”๏ธ FINISHED!

You will get a full, fluffy, 3D flower exactly like the photo.
