πŸ”² PATTERN IN DETAIL

We’ll make a 2-color granny square where colors switch every round. The center is white, followed by pink, and continues alternating.

🌸 ROUND 1 β€” Center (White)

  1. Make a magic ring.
  2. Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc).
  3. Into the ring:
    β†’ 2 dc, ch 2, (3 dc, ch 2) Γ— 3 times.
  4. Pull the ring tight and sl st to the top of the beginning ch-3.
βœ… You now have 4 clusters of 3 dc, separated by ch-2 corners.

Tip: If you don’t like magic ring, ch 5 and join with sl st to form a ring.

🌸 ROUND 2 β€” Pink

  1. Attach pink yarn in any corner ch-2 space.
  2. Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc (all in same corner).
  3. (Ch 1, skip next 3 dc, in next corner: 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) around.
  4. End with ch 1, join to top of ch-3.
βœ… Each side now has one ch-1 space between corners.

🌸 ROUND 3 β€” White

  1. Attach white in any corner space.
  2. Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in same corner.
  3. (Ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, in next corner 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) around.
  4. End with ch 1, join to top of beginning ch-3.

βœ… You should now have 2 pink blocks per side, with white filling in between.

🌸 ROUND 4 β€” Pink

  1. Attach pink in corner space.
  2. Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc (corner made).
  3. (Ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, in next corner 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) repeat around.
  4. End with ch 1, join.

βœ… You now have 3 sets of clusters per side.

🌸 ROUND 5 β€” White

  1. Attach white in corner.
  2. Work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in each corner.
  3. Along sides: (ch 1, 3 dc in each ch-1 space) repeat.
  4. Join, fasten off, and weave ends.

πŸͺ„ JOINING FOR THE BLANKET PATTERN

To make the repeating mosaic pattern (right side of your image):

  1. Crochet multiple squares exactly the same size.
  2. Arrange with alternating color orientation (all starting white centers).
  3. Join squares using:
    • Slip stitch join: Place squares RS facing up, sl st through back loops only.
    • Whip stitch join: Sew squares with yarn needle for an invisible seam.
  4. Add a border:
    • One round of white dc all around.
    • Optional: Pink shell border for finish.

πŸ’‘ TIPS

  • Keep color changes on the same side for a tidy look.
  • Block each square (steam or pin to shape) before joining.
  • To avoid visible color carries, cut yarn at each color change and weave ends neatly.
