Super easy to make crochet tunisian

Posted on October 28, 2025

The image you uploaded shows Tunisian crochet knit stitch (TKS) — a beautiful stitch that looks just like knitted fabric but is made using a Tunisian crochet hook. Here’s how to make it step-by-step:

🧶 What You’ll Need

  • Tunisian crochet hook: slightly longer than a regular crochet hook (a 5 mm hook works well for medium yarn).
  • Yarn: medium or light-weight yarn.
  • Scissors & yarn needle for finishing.

🌟 Step 1: Make the Foundation Chain

  1. Make a slip knot and place it on your hook.
  2. Chain your desired number of stitches (for practice, chain 15–20).
Each chain will be one vertical stitch later.

🌟 Step 2: Foundation Row (Forward Pass)

This step collects loops on the hook — do not yarn over and pull through yet.

  1. Skip the first chain (closest to the hook).
  2. Insert the hook into the back bump of the next chain.
  3. Yarn over and pull up a loop — keep it on the hook.
  4. Repeat step 3 across the row, inserting into each chain and pulling up a loop.

➡️ When you finish, your hook will have many loops on it (like knitting needles).

🌟 Step 3: Return Pass (RetP)

This step works the loops off the hook.

  1. Yarn over, pull through 1 loop only (this creates the edge chain).
  2. Then yarn over, pull through 2 loops at a time.
  3. Repeat step 2 until only one loop remains on your hook.

➡️ That completes Row 1.

🌟 Step 4: Tunisian Knit Stitch (Forward Pass)

Now you’ll create the fabric pattern that looks like knitting.

Each stitch has two vertical bars (front and back).
You’ll be inserting your hook between these bars.

  1. Insert the hook from front to back between the two vertical bars of the next stitch.
  2. Yarn over, pull up a loop.
  3. Leave that loop on your hook.
  4. Repeat steps 1–3 for every stitch across the row.

➡️ You’ll again have loops across the hook.

🌟 Step 5: Return Pass (same as before)

  • Yarn over, pull through 1 loop.
  • Then yarn over, pull through 2 loops across the row.
  • Continue until one loop remains.

Each time you do this, you complete one full row of Tunisian knit stitch.

🌟 Step 6: Repeat Rows

Repeat Step 4 (Forward Pass) and Step 5 (Return Pass)
until your fabric is the desired length.

You’ll see a smooth “V” knit pattern forming — it looks just like stockinette knitting.

🌟 Step 7: Bind Off (Finish Neatly)

  1. Insert hook as if to do a knit stitch.
  2. Yarn over, pull through both the vertical bars and the loop on the hook (like a slip stitch).
  3. Repeat across the row.
  4. Cut yarn and pull through the last loop.

Weave in the ends using a yarn needle.

💡 Optional: Prevent Curling

Tunisian crochet often curls — here’s how to fix it:

  • Use a larger hook (1–2 sizes bigger).
  • Add a border (simple single crochet edge works well).
  • Steam block or wet block your finished fabric to flatten it.

🌈 Bonus Variation Ideas

  • Tunisian Simple Stitch (TSS): Insert under front vertical bar only.
  • Tunisian Purl Stitch (TPS): Bring yarn to front, insert hook, yarn over, pull back through (like a knit purl).
  • Color Changes: For gradient effects, change yarn color at the return pass.
